We spent six weeks testing Engain across two different projects. Here is everything we found — what worked, what did not, and whether it is worth your budget.
Why We Tested Engain
Reddit is increasingly central to both organic search and AI-generated answers. For brands that want visibility in these channels, Reddit marketing is no longer optional. But most approaches to Reddit marketing either fail quickly due to account bans or require months of manual effort before producing results.
Engain promised to change this. We wanted to find out if the promise held up in practice.
Setup and Onboarding
Getting started with Engain was straightforward. After selecting a plan, we connected our brand information and set up keyword targeting for the opportunity finder. The platform walkthrough covered the main features without overwhelming detail.
The biggest initial learning curve was understanding how to brief the AI effectively. Providing specific product context upfront produced significantly better comment drafts than generic briefs.
Week-by-Week Findings
Weeks 1-2: The opportunity finder surfaced ranking Reddit threads we had not discovered manually. Some were actively generating buyer traffic. We posted our first batch of comments through the trusted account network and monitored for removals. Zero comments were flagged.
Weeks 3-4: Comment engagement began accumulating naturally. Upvoting helped surface key comments within competitive threads. First referral traffic from Reddit appeared in analytics by the end of week four.
Weeks 5-6: Brand visibility in AI-generated answers began emerging for one of the two projects. Traffic from Reddit comments was consistent and growing. Competitor monitoring surfaced two opportunities we were able to join early.
What Worked Well
The opportunity finder consistently surfaced high-quality threads. The trusted account network performed reliably throughout. AI comment drafts saved meaningful time. Analytics made it easy to identify which threads were driving results.
What Could Be Better
Per-comment costs beyond the included monthly credits add up quickly if you are posting at volume. The platform currently limits you to Engain’s account network — you cannot use your own accounts alongside theirs. Some features have a learning curve before they deliver full value.
Six-Week Summary
Both projects produced measurable results. Referral traffic from Reddit, emerging AI answer visibility, and zero account issues across the entire test period. For a six-week investment, that return is strong.
Our Recommendation
Engain delivers on its core promises. For brands ready to commit to Reddit as a sustained marketing channel, it removes the hardest barriers and produces compounding visibility over time.
